Cassandra Ingleside sighed as she ran a hand through her long, blonde hair. The young twenty-one year old had a lot on her mind, too much for someone who was usually so carefree and relaxed. She could feel the tension in her body, the aches that came along with the stress. Shifting through her purse she found a bottle of aspirin, taking two out and popping them into her mouth before swallowing them with a gulp of water. Twenty minutes until they would kick in; She almost rued the day she found out that little tidbit of information. If she were the type to talk about her problems, then maybe it wouldn't be so bad right now. But Cassie had always been more upbeat and outgoing, never really needing to let it all out. Even as analytical over many things she had been, it had never been something she couldn't handle on her own. She knew now, of course, that everything had always been pretty easy for her. It almost sounded wrong to her, but she didn't even want to talk to her friends or her boyfriend about what was going on in her life because it was sure to complicate things.
Checking the time on her cell phone, she wondered who was still up and about. It was already past ten o' clock and normally she'd be in bed, but she just wanted to get out. Out of this dorm, out of this city, out of this country, even. A trip back to visit her favorite aunt in America would be lovely, though she was sure that her grandmother could use the visit more. She wasn't that far away, and having been raised by her, the two were rather close. She sighed once more, remembering the last doctor's visit the elderly woman had had. Things weren't going so well and it worried Cassie; What would she do without her? Shaking her head and trying to get out of her current mental frame, she checked her computer...only to discover that no one was on. Damn. She could've used the distraction. She rolled her eyes, pushing away from the small desk and walking over toward her window. The city was beautiful at night, especially on a quiet night like this. Seeing something shining below caught her eye, only to discover it was the pool. Empty. Inviting. How often would she get the chance to have the pool all to herself? She only hesitated for a moment before quickly changing into her favorite bathing suit, wrapping a towel around herself, grabbing her phone, and heading toward the pool.
The moonlight glittered off the water, its reflection wavering with the rippling of the waves. Her eyes double check for any sign that someone else was here and finding nothing, she put her things down on an empty chair and headed toward the water and dipped a foot in to test the water. It felt glorious, still a bit warm from the day but yet slightly cool as well; Perfect temperature. Slowly she lowered herself into the water, her body relaxing muscle by muscle. Cassie could practically feel all of her problems just melting away as she swam under the water for a moment before rising up and staring at the night sky. It was breath-takingly beautiful to look up at. She had always adored the stars, always been interested in learning more about them, which is why she was working so hard to become an astronomer. Smiling to herself, she began to do slow, lazy laps in the pool, wishing she had remembered her inflatable lounge chair. Oh well. At least nothing would disrupt her momentary peace for now.
