The figure tossed and turned before jolting awake from the reoccurring nightmare, heart racing, skin clammy. The blonde pushed herself up against the headboard, clutching the blanket tightly. Every night was the same nightmare. She has been having them since she's first heard about the murders. Every dream, there was a new victim, practically on the death bed. And every dream, Elikolani was trying to save their life, but she was always too late or she made a mistake or it was something else. She had barely gotten more than eight hours of sleep for the past four consecutive days altogether. She was low on sleep, she had a billion texts coming up, and her confidence was slipping through her fingers, so to say she was a little cranky would be an understatement. Her olive green eyes glanced over at the blinking red digits on her alarm clock before groaning in protest. Four in the morning. What the hell was she going to do? She wasn't going to be able to fall back asleep like this. She sighed, leaning backwards, accidentally hitting her head against the board. She hissed in pain, glaring at the inanimate object before rolling out of bed. Well, she might as well get a head start on her run. She didn't have class until half past eight. She might as well make use of her time. Slipping into the bathroom, she brushed her teeth before emerging, finally more awake than before. Changing into her spandex shorts and tank top, she snuck out of her dorm, going for a two and half hour run before returning for a cold water shower. Eli exchanged the towel wrapped around her body for a skirt and top before putting on her make up, swiftly pushing the stuff she needed into her bag. She'd take her text books, but they were too heavy and she didn't actually need them for today's class. She grabbed her keys off her bedside table and made her way out the dorm room once more.
A short distanced walk later, Elikolani finally setteled herself in her usual back corner of Faure Cafe. If anything, this cafe was her second home. If she wasn't with Dante or Aimee, she was on the field. And if it wasn't either, she was studying in this cafe; rain or shine, night or day. Sometimes even night and day. The first thing she did the second the laptop was on, was log into her IM account. It was a bad habit of her's. She shouldn't be online. Not with the studying she had to get done. Not to mention the lab reports and the assignments. But she lived and breathed IM. Sort of. Okay, not really, but it does feel weird to not be online. She said hello to a few people before minimizing the windows and opening up her assignment. Well, she's got to get some stuff done. She sighed, pushing a strand of hair behind her ear, leaning back against the extremely comfortable sofa chair. She pouted, wishing Dante was around to keep her company. Now that she thought about it, she hadn't exactly seen that boy in a while, but she knew he was probably busy. Perhaps with his "after school activities" as he likes to call them. Eli liked to call it "ruining someone's life." To say they didn't agree on that wouldn't be a surprise. She's been trying to get him to stop selling drugs for years, and still, he wouldn't listen. If there was one thing she hated more than well... okay nothing... but if there was one thing she hated, it was drugs. And her boyfriend happened to be a co drug dealer along with the infamous Jason Everton. She wasn't the least bit happy about this. No matter how much she pleaded and begged, Dante wouldn't quit dealing for her. Everybody kept saying she should break up with him. That he was just going downhill and she deserved someone better. But the thing was, she didn't want someone better. She wanted Dante. She wanted him to quit. She wanted a ring. Guess she'll just have to be stuck with her wishful thinking cause everyone knows that Dante wasn't going to propose to her any time soon. Eli shook her head a little, trying to rid the negative thoughts from her mind. She had to stay positive. If she didn't, she just might start losing her sanity.
She took a sip of her usual caramel machiato before placing it on the coffee table in front of her as she sat the laptop on her crossed legs. The bad thing about being a pre-med student is the fact that she had to take science courses. And while biology wasn't so bad and she didn't need to take physics.... Chemistry was the one thing she had trouble with. Not only did she need it to prescribe medicine, she couldn't even balance the equations. How sad is that? While she was still managing to maintain a B, she was pretty sure that it wasn't going to last too long. Not with the rate she was going. She could barely even concentrate on the screen before her. This lack of sleep and nightmares were doing her no good. Not even four cups of coffee helped her to stay awake anymore. And usually, she only needed one, so that should say something. Her aquamarine tainted nails typed furiously on the keyboard, attempting to maintain a healthy positive aura. But, of course, it, clearly, wasn't working because five minutes into her assignment, Eli was ready to throw her laptop across the cafe. With a frustrated sigh, she shut off her laptop and put it aside, already giving up on her assignment. She'll finish it later- when she was in the mood for it. She took out her blackberry, sending Romeu a text, asking him to join her at Faure Cafe, hoping to get a hold of him this early in the morning. She didn't particularly like waking people up so early, but she was in a crabby mood, and Romeu was one of the few people who knew how to brighten up her mood. She had known him for a while now. Almost four years now, actually. Most people wouldn't believe it if she told them they dated back in high school. He was the new kid during their junior year, and Eli just kind of fell for his accent first and then his personality. Things hadn't worked out though. It was a mutual break up, and they were on good terms. Thank God because she wasn't sure if she'd be able to afford losing someone so special. Romeu was a very very good friend of her's, and she would have hated to end things on bad terms with him. And despite the fact that they didn't date anymore, he still knew how to make her happy. So it wasn't a surprise that he was the first person she thought of.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - Romeu loved sleeping. Then again, what male didn't? As much as he loved it he never slept too late, unless he partied or had work the night before. Which he did. Work in itself, for him, was like a party. There was rarely ever a dull moment at the Rex Club, what with the all the weirdos that wander in and out. He worked with the ever famous Jason Everton, and working with him, there really was never a dull moment. He always made things... interesting, for lack of a better term. Romeu enjoyed working with him and at the bar. It gave him something to do rather than sit in his dorm doing absolutely nothing and absolutely no one.
Not to say that he was a sex freak, because he was anything but. As a matter of fact he was more of a romantic than anything else, it was just hard to see that through his various one night stands. Unlike many others, he didn't bring a different girl back to his room every night, or even every week. He had more respect for women than that, but since he was single he'll live it up while he still can. He's also quite the flirt as well but knew his boundaries. Then again, it wasn't his fault that the ladies just loved him.
Of course, he knew they did. He never bragged about it however, was always much more modest about it. To be completely honest, he didn't find himself all the attractive in looks nor personality, but that's how almost every person was. They never wanted to admit how well they looked or how well they did something. Again, modesty. Besides, he was just never brought up that way. His parents taught him much better than that and, coming from a very Portuguese family, was made sure that he was brought up much better than that.
He had always wondered about the completely spoiled people, who seemingly had no respect for anyone else and thought that their shit didn't stink. Romeu rarely ever hated anything or anyone, but he despised people like that. He always wondered why someone would bring up their children like that. But who was he to talk about parenting methods? He wasn't a father and didn't plan to be one anytime soon. All he knew was that when the time comes for him to have children, he would bring them up just like he was - with manners, respect, and discipline. And humor, of course! What would life be without humor? Boring as all hell, that's what.
Romeu, laying in his large, comfortable bed in his dorm room, was woken up by a sudden, rather loud beeping noise. He lifted his head up, blinking at his nightstand. It was his phone. He checked the time and groaned. It was barely even seven yet, who could possibly be bothering him at that early of an hour? No one, which made him grow very worried very fast. It must be somewhat serious if he was getting messages so early. He grabbed his phone and checked his texts. It was Elikolani, asking him to meet at.. Faure Café? He relaxed a little. Maybe it wasn't as serious as he had thought, which was good; if Eli had been in trouble or hurt in any way he'd be crushed.
Indeed they were exes, but that didn't stop him from caring for her. They were very good, close friends and he honestly couldn't imagine life without her. He didn't particularly like her boyfriend, but then again who really did? It wasn't his choice to pick whom she dated or fell for, so he tried to keep away from that subject. He sent her a quick text back saying he'd be there soon. He took a quick shower to wake himself up, but it barely worked. Romeu dried off and pulled a pair of jeans and a shirt from his closet. He slipped the clothes on and slid his feet into a pair or sneakers. He grabbed his keys and was out the door a minute later.
The café wasn't that far of a walk, so he didn't bother taking his car. He remembered when he first arrived in Europe and it took him forever to get used to driving on the other side of the road. He had gotten used to it, however, and was as good of a driver as any. Now when he went to go visit his family back in the States, he had to get used to driving all over again. It was difficult going back and forth from his real home to his second home, but in a way he enjoyed it. It was exciting every time and he loved seeing the people he hadn't seen in what seemed like ages. His mother had asked him if, after school was over, if he was going to move back home or stay in Europe. He hadn't given an answer; it was too hard of a choice, and he still had over a year to decide. He just hoped he would end up making the right one.
He entered the café and instantly spotted Eli. He ordered a mocha frappe and walked over to her, throwing his arm around her and kissing her cheek lightly. He had always done that, and probably always would. "Good morning, miss," he said as he sat down, yawning. "I have one question for you, do have any idea of how early it is right now?" He chuckled, making it clear that he was joking around with her. He knew she hated waking people up, but the fact that she did meant one of two things - either she had something important to tell him or she really just needed company. He didn't mind if it was the latter, after all no one particularly likes to be alone. And he was all the more willing to keep her company. He smiled at her, sipping his frappe and waiting for a response.

Unlike most people, Elikolani was one of the few people that woke up at the break of dawn- literally. But then again, she wasn't like anyone else. She was one of very few people who actually liked morning runs. To her, running was the one thing that kept her awake and alert. To her, running was freedom. It allowed her to do whatever she wanted. It allowed her to control her own breathing, her own pace. The way the wind blew at her face.... it was a feeling like none other. Running calmed her. It made her feel like nothing could possibly go wrong. Like for a moment, everything was okay. But of course, it never was. Still, she liked to escape into that fantasy world for an hour or two before returning to the cold depressing reality. And while running usually did the trick to keep her awake, for the longest time now, she had been waking up in the middle of the night from the nightmares, only to end up not being able to fall back asleep. And not even running could do anything to help. She just wished they would disappear and let her sleep peacefully. The nightmares just keep clouding her mind over and over again. Like it was a constant reminder. Just continuously pounding in her head. It didn't help that she was stressed enough as it is. With this added on top, it was no wonder that she was constantly cranky these days. She was short on fuse, and she hated it. She hated that she wasn't her normal self. She hated knowing she was angry and she hated knowing that she was being a bitch, but she couldn't help it. No matter how many extra strength Tylenol's she took, her head still pounded, and her heart still raced every time she heard the word murder. But these things couldn't be helped so she'll just have to suck it up and hope that this.... phase will end soon. Because if it didn't, she was going to fail her test. And she couldn't let that happen. She needed to get good grades. She needed to go to med school. All she wanted was to go to school, graduate, get to med school and become a doctor. Simple. So why was it so hard?
Oh yeah, because her father didn't approve of it, and tried to make this as hard for her as he could. First he cuts her off, then he sells everything she has left behind at home, and has basically disowned her indirectly. Not only had her father banned her from going back home, he had refused to be associated with her. And he had, somehow, even managed to get her professors on his side. Goes to show how great of a lawyer he can be without having to do things illegally. Elikolani was ready to break down any minute now, but still, she just bit down on her lower lip and held it back. Elikolani Juliet Fremont didn't cry. She didn't get angry. She didn't judge. She was only allowed to be cheerful and happy. That and that only. She closed her eyes, blinking back the tears and forcefully swallowing them down. Nothing was wrong. Everything was okay. She was not stressed. She was doing great. Perhaps, if she said it enough times, she might start to believe it. And if it didn't work... Well... she'll just have to force herself to believe it. Because if she let her happiness slip away, all she's left with are the memories of a hard life. She didn't want to be one of those girls that cried about how much their life sucked. She didn't want to be the kind of girl who cried for attention because her father cut her off. She wasn't the kind of girl who wanted people to pity her. So, like she always did, she forced a smile upon her face and continuously told herself that everything was going to be okay. It has to be okay. It's got to be okay. It can't not be okay. Eli's hand gripped tightly against the arm rest as if it'd somehow transfer all her doubts into the sofa. Her olive green eyes opened again, adjusting to the dim lights. People were still continuously chatting amongst themselves, laughing in a carefree manner. She sighed, shaking her head a little, taking a big gulp of her scorching hot caffeinated drink.
She forced a bright smile on her face when she saw Romeu's approaching figure, standing up to return his hug. "Good morning!" She greeted cheerfully, leaning into his hug and kiss on the cheek. She sat down, a small smile still plastered on her face. To anybody else, Eli's smile was casual. As if she was truly happy. But then again, they didn't know better. She should get into acting. She seemed to be good at it. She sent Romeu an apologetic glance, "I'm know! I know! I'm so so sorry!" She apologized quickly. She knew he was just kidding, but she knew he wasn't much of a morning person considering he worked at the club till late in the morning. And she knew that he didn't mind that she had called him this early in the morning, but that didn't stop her from feeling guilty. "I just...." She trailed off, biting her lower lip to stop herself from continuing with that sentence. She shook her head a little, placing the happy smile on her face again, "Nothing... Nevermind.... I really am sorry though!" She finished, pouting a little. She felt bad for waking him up like this, but.... he was Romeu. He was her best friend. He was like a brother to her. He knew all the right things to say. And he seemed to know all the signs of her emotions. She just hoped that his senses were off today. She didn't want him to find out she was feeling sad. She didn't want him worrying about her. God knows he does that enough already. She grinned at him before looking down at her lap, "Ro....." She started, waiting for him to acknowledge her before continuing, "Have you ever wished you could do something over? Like.... going back in time to change your mind knowing what you know now in the future..." She asked quietly, unsure whether or not she had been making sense. She was pretty sure she wasn't, but the words were just kind of slipping out of her mouth like thoughts being spoken. She shook her head a little before having a giggle escape her lips, "For a second there, I sounded totally depressing! Don't worry about answering me. I think it was meant to be a rhetorical question." She beamed, shrugging a little, trying to change the subject. "So how was work last night? Did anything interesting happen?" To anybody walking past who were listening to their conversation, they would think that Eli was just another girl with ADD, but to anyone who knew her well, knew that she was just trying to cover her mistaken words up.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - Romeu, sipping his frappe, raised his eyebrows at Eli. She wasn't seeming herself - well she was, but it didn't seem natural. Almost as if she was trying to be herself, which was simply ridiculous. No one should have to try to be themselves. He watched her carefully. Oh yes, there was something definitely wrong. The question was would she tell him without him prying her for an answer?
Probably not, he knew. Eli never was one to burden others with her problems, but he would always be there for her to talk to. It irritated him slightly to know that something was bugging her and to have her not tell him was irritating all the more. But of course, he could never stay irritated or mad at her. She was Eli after all, practically another little sister of his. As if he needed another one, he had three already, but strangely he was much closer with Eli than them.
Speaking of his sisters, he missed them dearly. He missed his entire family, as a matter of fact. His four sisters and his three brothers, his crazy parents, everyone. He had flown them out here once before in his freshman year and they loved it. They couldn't stay for long, though; his dad had to get back to work so they only stayed for a week or two. It was nice, though. He was thinking about maybe flying them out again. It would definitely be a nice break from reality.
But then Romeu remembered the murders and suddenly nixed the idea from his mind. No, no way would he let his family come here with these murders. If something happened to one of his sisters... he'd never forgive himself. The same thing if something happened with Eli. He was there to protect her, that's how it always was. He wouldn't even let a fly land on her without whacking it against the wall a few times. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to protect her from her boyfriend. It wasn't that he didn't like Dante, it was just that Romeu knew Eli would probably end up getting hurt by him one way or another. As if selling drugs wasn't hurting her enough.
He waved off her apology. "Don't worry about it," he said with a smile. He didn't really mind being woken up, it was just the fact that he had to work so late but seemingly never got enough sleep. He could sleep all day and night and wake up still tired as hell. Perhaps it was just a male thing, who knows. Perhaps it was a more comfortable bed he needed? Or someone to fall asleep next to. Well there was Ceri, but like Eli, she was in pre-med and studied a lot. So Romeu would just stick to sleeping alone in his rather large bed.
He narrowed his eyes slightly at her. She wanted to talk about something, clearly, but didn't want to. He sighed softly and thought about her words, anyway. Had he ever wished he could do something over again? All the time. Although their break up was mutual, he always wished he could go back and date her all over again. Whether it would have the same result or not, it was fun. Of course, he was glad they were still very close friends. He wouldn't trade their friendship for the world and he hoped she knew that.
So perhaps he had still had slight lingering feelings for her. He always had. He wasn't sure if she knew, but even if she did it was nothing big. It was sort of hard to get over someone like her, but he was perfectly content being her best friend instead. Besides, he knew she loved Dante though he had absolutely no idea why. He was never one to fight or argue with her about him, he was probably one of the few friends, if not only one, who actually made an effort to get along with him.
Romeu set his drink down and looked her square in the eye. "Eli," he said softly, "People always wish they could do things over again. Fact in point is that they can't." He sighed again. "Don't ask me how work was. Don't ask me if anything interesting happened. Tell me what's bugging you. I'm assuming that's why you wanted me here in the first place." He smiled warmly, assuring her that he was there for her and was all ears. "And if you don't tell me what's bugging you," he said nonchalantly, "I will take your scalding hot drink and pour it on me to make you laugh. But I will be in much pain all because you didn't tell me." He gave a wide grin.

Elikolani could see the watchful eyes that belonged to Romeu and shuffled in her seat uncomfortably under his scrutinizing gaze. It was as if he could see right into her mind. Like he knew something was wrong. But how? She wasn't showing any signs of a friend being in need. At least, not any signs that she knew of. But then again.... This was Romeu. He knew her better than anyone. Maybe even better than herself. It seemed like he could read her like an open book, and while that was a good things at times, it was moments like these that she hated it. Hated that he knew something was wrong when she was trying so hard to pretend that there was nothing wrong. Sometimes she wished he'd play along with her act. maybe if he helped her pretend that she was okay, she was truly going to believe it. But then she would be living in a complete lie, wouldn't she? And everyone knows how much she hated liars. It'd make her a hypocrite if she, too, lied and then dragged Romeu to do the same with her. Still, sometimes it'd be nice if he just played along for once. Then maybe the fake perfect life would come true. She laughed sarcastically in her mind. Yeah right. When that happens, pigs better have been flying. Because perfect lives don't exist for people like her. People like her smile through the day, hope for a better tomorrow, and tell themselves lies. They're the worst lies told, but if she didn't tell herself lies, she might not make it through the day. And she had to be strong. So if it meant lying to herself, then it was worth it. At least she wasn't lying to anyone else. And it wasn't like someone was going to get hurt in the process. At least she hoped not. And plus, it wasn't like she was lying about something important. It was just minor lies. Like saying she was okay. Or she was just yawning and not crying. It wasn't like she lied about the important big things.
Plus, it wasn't like those little lies hurt. She just didn't want people to worry about her. They probably have enough problems in their own life as it is. She didn't want to make it any more difficult for them. She didn't want to put extra weight on their shoulders. And it wasn't like her problems were life or death situations. They were just little problems that shouldn't even matter in the first place. She didn't want it to matter, but it did, and it bothered her. A lot. It's not that she minded opening up to people because she didn't, but it's just that she didn't want to be the person to push the others over the edge with her problems. If she kept sharing like this, she was sure she was going to start sounding like a whiney little baby. She knew this was Ro she was talking about, and she realizes that he wouldn't mind bearing her problems, but still.... She didn't want to add any stress to Romeu's already existing one's. If she told him her worries, he'd just worry about her, and be all protective of her again. It wasn't that she didn't appreciate Ro's protectiveness- because she did- but it's just that... Well... she didn't need protecting. She knew he was just looking after her and would never let anything or anyone harm her. But she knew how to take care of herself. She could stand up for herself. She didn't understand why people continuously thought that she needed to be taken care of. Or that the decisions she makes were constantly wrong. Take Dante, for example. She didn't understand why her friends didn't like that she was dating him. She's been dating him for years. The least they could do was at least pretend to be supportive of her. Instead, they just remind her every day that she sold drugs. She knew that he did. She hated it. Hated that he was selling drugs. Hated that he never quit doing it even though she kept pleading him. Hated that she still loved him nevertheless. Hated the way her heart broke every time her friends told her that if he loved her enough, he'd quit dealing. But it wasn't like she could help who she fell in love with.
At least Romeu actually made an effort to be civil with Dante, unlike some people. She smiled sheepishly, "Too late, I'm already worrying." She pursed her lips, looking down at her lap. He looked tired, and this was her fault. Why did she have to go and be an early bird and then decide to wake Ro up too? So stupid. She was sure he could have been able to sleep a little longer. Stupid stupid Eli. Okay, so maybe she worried a little too much. But Ro was her best friend. She had every right to be worried. Plus, they had dated once upon a time, and even though things hadn't worked out, their friendship was still as strong as ever. Sure, sometimes she wondered what it'd be like if they never broke up. Wondered if she had to worry about her boyfriend dealing drugs, or fight with her friends over said boyfriend. Maybe life would have been easier. A lot easier. But if life was easy all the time, she wouldn't be able to appreciate them as much as she could and should. She kept her head down, her thumbs twiddling against her lap. She hated it when he sighed like that at her, and spoke her name like she was a small child. She nodded a little at his response as to whether he had ever wanted to go back in time to change something. He was right, of course. She couldn't go back and change things. She pouted a little, daring to sneak a glance up at him, "But I always want you around, Ro! You make it sound like I'm forcing you to be here." She said defensively, her eyes adverting back to her skirt as if it was really interesting. She shook her head a little, "Nothing's bugging me" She lied very quietly. Realizing her mistake, she shook her head again, "Nothing important is bugging me." She corrected, offering a smile towards Romeu. Her olive green eyes widened at his proclomation, "What?! No! Don't you dare do that, Ro!" She exclaimed, immediately clutching the drink closer to her body. She sighed, her hold on the drink loosening a little, "It's just that.... I've been getting these nightmares.... And they're so scary. So... real." Before she knew it, her eyes were already starting to tear up. She placed the drink down on the table, shaking her head a little, wiping the tears away.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - Romeu watched as Eli shifted uncomfortably. Good. That meant she knew that he knew something was wrong and she wasn't telling. He knew her too well to just miss that sort of thing; he knew what the true, happy Eli looked and acted like and this just wasn't her. She was going to tell him whether she wanted to or not - he had a knack for making people talk without them realizing they were. Even if it took a while, that was fine. Romeu was a very patient person. As long as he could help, then he didn't mind waiting.
He was aware that at times Eli didn't like how protective he was over her, but even if wanted to stop he couldn't. He just was. Since they were so close, he felt obligated to watch out for her. He knew she could very well handle herself but he didn't care. Especially with the murders going on, he was going to be much more protective and she would just have to deal with it. He was never as concerned about another woman, unless it was someone in his family, as he was of Eli. But she didn't know that. He watched her patiently, knowing whatever was bothering her was going to spew out at any given moment. He placed a hand on hers lightly. "Really, Eli, don't worry about it. I would have been pissed if it was anyone else but you but since it wasn't, trust me it's okay." He smiled softly, taking his hand back.
Romeu knew she was probably mentally cursing herself for waking him up. That's just how Eli was, though - she was stubborn and it didn't take him long to realize that. But that was also one of the things that had drawn him to her. He remembered a girl he dated back in the States his sophomore year in high school. She was such a pushover, doing whatever he wanted to do and never once standing up for herself or making a decision for herself. It was the most annoying thing ever. Too most guys, they would love someone like that. They could make her do whatever they wanted her to do and that is every guys' dream, isn't it? Apparently not. Needless to say they didn't last long, maybe a month at most. And thank God for that because three weeks later in the summer he was in a different country.
But when he met Eli, it was so much different. She was fun and smart and lively but stubborn, and he loved it. She had a backbone and wasn't afraid to show it. That was probably her most attractive trait, actually. Women who can't stand up for themselves or did whatever someone else wanted to do were so irritating, especially when you know you're doing something they don't like but they pretend like they don't care. He frowned at the memory of that girl, throwing her out of his mind in mental disgust. He hoped the best for her, but knew she'd never get it being that way.
He couldn't help but to grin a little when she said she always wanted him around. "Really?" he asked, speaking in a mock Southern accent. "Why I am simply flattered, darlin'." Romeu winked at her. He did a whole bunch of voices; give him a name of a cartoon character and he could mimic it perfectly. Being on stage since elementary school he was always talented that way. For a while he even wanted to be one of those actors that do voice overs for cartoons. But now he wanted to be much more than that, and hoped that he would become 'Mr. Hollywood', as Penny would say. He looked at Eli knowingly as she said nothing was wrong. For him it wasn't that hard to see that something obviously was. To others, they would shrug it off and that would be the end of that.
Romeu gave a 'don't try to bullshit me' look when she corrected herself that nothing important was wrong. Did she really think it would be so easy to pull one over on him? He hoped she'd know him better than that. He laughed as she held onto her drink tightly. "Yeah, right. I have fair skin, I'd be red and smell like coffee forever." His smile faded to be replaced by his very rare serious face as she began to talk. He watched as tears welled up behind her eyes and frowned. He put an arm around her, pulling her closer. "No crying," he said very softly. "You're the strong one in this friendship, I'm supposed to be the one crying." He smiled a little , rubbing her shoulder. "Tell me about these nightmares, love." He saw one little tear escape the side her eye and brushed it away with his thumb.

there's a fire starting in my heart reaching a fever pitch and it's bringing me out the dark [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,10,true][atrb=style,background-image: url('http://i53.tinypic.com/wb98wn.jpg');,true] ROLLING IN THE DEEP !
Elikolani pursed her lips. Romeu read through her like an open book. He knew her like none other, and was always there for her when she needed him. He never failed to give her a shoulder to cry on and never got mad at her when she woke him up early in the morning. And under any other circumstances, she could have loved him unconditionally. Don't get her wrong, she did love him unconditionally, but only in a best friend kind of way. maybe if she hadn't met Dante, she would still be in love with Ro. She knew she shouldn't think about these things, but sometimes her mind just kind of wanders. Plus, it wasn't like life wouldn't be great. He was special, and he held a very special place in her heart. He was practically the first person to ever truly care about her, and bothered to know her for her instead of just being okay with happy Eli. And while she was truly constantly happy and always had a smile on her face, there still laid a human being who knew how to be sad and angry. Just because she wasn't showing it all the time, it didn't mean it didn't exist. And Ro found that out the with no problem. He had learned the hard way that she was as stubborn as a mule. She always had to make sure she got her point across. And while Elikolani didn't particularly like arguing with people, sometimes she had no choice. She hated fight with a passion. Hated standing there and let someone else degrade her, telling her what to do and what not to do. And even though she did whatever she could to prevent a dispute, she couldn't just let people have their say and not have her own. She liked to make her pint across, make people understand her part of the argument, and settle things professionally. She stood up for herself. And there was no way she'd back down or let someone else make decisions for her.
Standing up to her father was a good example. All her life, she's been told to become a lawyer. She lived and breathed law books. Not like she really had a say in the matter. Everyday after school, her father would send the car to her school and take her back to one of his law offices, and make her study cases with his other employed lawyers. All day everyday. She would have made a damn good lawyer, but unlike her father, she got attached to people too easily. But what she had going was becoming a defense lawyer. She believed in the greater good in everybody and put up a good argument. Like she said, she puts her point across, and makes sure other people understood it and got where she was coming from. But too bad she didn't want anything to do with law. She wanted to become a doctor. She wanted to help people. She wanted to heal them. She wanted to see life. See the way people smile when the tragedy turned out to be a happy ending. But she continued to lie to him. Pretended like she loved law. Like she wanted to follow in his footsteps. Her mother knew that she didn't want to, of course, but did she care? Of course not. All she cared about was work. Eli had to hide under her blankets late at night to early in the morning just to read about human anatomy, chemistry books, biology books and etc. etc. Until one day.... She just kind of... Snapped. And when she snapped, she blew up. So of cours, it was expected that her father flipped out when she told him that she wanted to study medicine. She knew he wouldn't stand for it. That was her father. Who else did she get her stubbornness from? Obviously not her mother. So it was no surprise that he had practically dragged her out of the house and told her not to come back unless she changed her mind and realized what a foolish mistake her dream career is going to be. Being the absolute stubborn girl that she was, never changed her mind. She knew her father would do anything to ruin any chances of her getting into a college.
So by the age of fifteen, she had smarten up, got herself a job and saved up enough money to pay for her own education while her father forced her to finish high school in Paris. She hadn't seen or spoken to him since the second last week of high school. And even though it pained her to not have any connections with her own family. she had no other choice. Perhaps it was better if they didn't talk. Even if she loved them and would die to see them. Even if it was just a glimpse to see that they were well. That's why Ro was so special to her. It was because he was there to care for her. He was there to act as a brother figure for her. He protected her and supported her. He told her what she wanted to hear while still reminding her of the consequences. She glanced up at him, a pout on her lips, "Okay... But I still am sorry." She could have went to Dante. Any girlfriend would immediately talk to her boyfriend first, but Eli needed to talk to someone impartial. She needed to talk to someone who wouldn't just agree with her. She needed to talk to someone who knew her better than anyone. And while Dante seemed to read her pretty easily, they had only been dating for a year. She has known Ro since her junior year in high school. They had dated for two years and they understood each other the way nobody else could. Eli giggled at his southern accent. She had to admit, she had always been a sucker for southern accents. "Of course, Ro! I wouldn't want it any other way!" She exclaimed, her eyes wide. "You better be flattered! I don't just flatter anyone!" Okay, that was a lie. She complimented everyone she knew. From their eye colour to their socks colour. She smirked a little at him, "But I like the smell of coffee." She smiled up at him a little. It was a sad smile, but it was still a smile nonetheless when he told her she was the strong one in the friendship. Taking a deep breath, she told him everything. From how she had dreams of people being murdered to her always being a second too late to save them. "I feel so useless, Ro! Every time I try, I'm a second too late! And they were so real! I thought you guys really did die! A-a-and I c-couldn't save you guys!" She cried, stuffing her face in the palm of her hands, tears falling freely down her cheeks now.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - Eli was a special person. She found the bright side in everything when others couldn't, and to see her like this simply killed Romeu. Whenever he was upset he'd go to her first just as she had done with him - and when he did go to her, she always made him see that things could be so much worse, and made him focus on the good things. He hoped he could make her feel better just as she would for him.
"Quit it with the sorry," he groaned with a playful roll of his eyes. Just like typical Eli, saying sorry when sorry wasn't needed. For a slight moment he wondered why she hadn't gone to Dante first, but then realized that he was glad she didn't. It wasn't that he didn't like the kid, because he didn't, but he didn't know her as well as Romeu did. He was sure there were aspects of her life now that only Dante knew, but he was also sure there were things that he knew and Dante didn't. That was just natural. He had things he'd never told Eli - well not really, he didn't have much to tell and he would always tell her anyway.
With his arm still slung over her shoulders, he listened carefully and intently as she told him about the nightmares. He frowned. From what she explained, they sounded brutal - and all too real. His brow furrowed as she began to cry and he rubbed her back comfortingly. "They seemed real but the good thing is that they weren't, right?" He pulled her into a hug. "This murderer crap has gotten everyone all riled up, Eli. I'm sure tons of people are having nightmares just like that, or barely sleeping at all. But listen if you ever need me, don't be afraid to call me. Any time of night, or day. You know where I'll be - in bed." He smiled, attempting to cheer her up a bit.
Romeu grabbed a napkin from the coffee table, moving her hands so he could wipe the tears away. To anyone walking by they seemed like a simple couple; the girl upset over something and the boy consoling her. There had been few times when he was asked if he and Eli were dating in which he would respond that they were just really close friends. No one quite believed they weren't a couple anymore, and to be truthful it got highly annoying. He just loved her in a best friend sort of way.
"Hey, how about this," he said, moving so he was looking straight at her. "Let's get out and do something fun. You know, get your mind off of things, relax." He smiled. It sounded like a good idea to him, and hoped it would to her too. "And no studying," he said firmly. "I don't care if you have a test the next day or not. One bad grade won't mean much in a sea full of A's." He chuckled. He knew how smart Elikolani was and that she barely ever had a bad grade; hearing that probably killed her a little bit inside. Oh well. She needed to let loose sometimes, and who else to help her do that than dear old Romeu.
